Description of the genus

Shrub or small tree, sometimes climbing, with stellate and sparse simple hairs. Buds globose. Flowers solitary, axillary, shortly pedicellate; bracteoles 2, enclosing the bud; sepals 3, valvate, enclosing the petals in bud; petals 6, in 2 whorls, both valvate, free, the outer whorl slightly larger. Carpel solitary, cylindric, with numerous ovules in two rows. Ripe carpel indehiscent, sessile or subsessile, many-seeded. Seeds horizontal; aril absent.

Worldwide: Species 1, in Tanzania, Malawi and Mozambique.
