FZ.36. Taeniophyllum Blume

Description of the genus

Leafless epiphytes. Stems simple. Roots many, capable of photosynthesizing. Inflorescences axillary racemes. Flowers resupinate; sepals and petals similar, united for most of their length; lip free, spurred. Anther erect with 4 pollinia in 2 pairs, one pair of which is greater than the other. Stipes and viscidium 1.

Similar to Microcoelia, but that genus has 2 pollinia per flower.

Worldwide: C. 170 species in Asia and Australasia; one species in tropical Africa occurring in Ghana, DRC, Malawi, Zimbabwe and Mauritius.

Malawi: 1 taxon.
