Description:
Climbing herb with cylindrical stems and 2-fid tendrils; all parts woolly-pilose with reddish-brown hairs; leaves simple, up to 13.5 x 15 cm., circular to broadly-elliptic or ovate, obtuse or apiculate at apex, deeply cordate at base, margins dentate with projecting teeth up to 2 mm long; petiole up to 8 cm long; stipules 7 x 3 mm, oblong-falcate; inflorescences in leaf-opposed cymes with peduncles up to 6.5 cm long; pedicels 4 mm long lengthening to 11 mm in fruit; bracts and bracteoles up to 4 x 1.5 mm., lanceolate; flower-bud 2-2.5 mm long; calyx 1 mm long, subentire; fruit 7 x 5 mm when dry, often with persistent style, glabrous; seed 1, 6 x 4 mm., with dorsal crest.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: rubiginosa: rusty red, referring to the indumentum covering almost the whole plant.
