Shrub up to 1.5 m tall with stems at first covered with woolly tomentum but becoming glabrous and corky. Leaves clustered near the apex of current years growth, longitudinally 5-nerved from base, narrowly elliptic to elliptic or ovate, 4-7.5(11.5) x 1.4-3.5(5) cm, subacute to subobtuse at apex, rounded to cordate at base, green with conic projections each ending in a bristle on upper surface, lower surface densely floccose-tomentose. Flowers 5-merous, arranged in dense umbel-like cymes at the ends of branches; receptacle 11 x 7 mm, bell-shaped and slightly constricted below sepals, longitudinally 10-ribbed, floccose-tomentose; sepals 6-7 x 4 mm, triangular; stamens 10, very unequal, longer stames with filaments 16 mm long and anthers 11 mm long, shorter stamens with filaments 12.5 mm long and anthers 9 mm long; fructiferous receptacle subhemispherical, becoming glabrous and crowned with the persistent and reflexed sepals; seeds c. 0.75 cm in diameter. |
