Trees, exudate milky latex. Stipules small, caduceus. Leaves alternate, spirally arranged, or sub-opposite at apex of branches; lamina palmately compound, usually trifoliate, leaflets entire, petiole long, apex glandular. Inflorescence many flowered panicles of cymes in axils of leaves or fallen leaves. Sepals 5-dentate or 5-lobed, lobes valvate, disc small. Fruit capsule, large, usually 3-valved, epicarp subfleshy, endocarp woody. Seeds oblong-elliptic, cotyledon broad and flat. Worldwide: 10 species from Amazonian South America Malawi: 1 cultivated taxon. |
