Description of the family
Dioecious or monoecious soft-wooded small trees with milky latex. Trunks resembling palms. Leaves palmately-lobed, borne in a terminal crown. Petals and calyx 5-lobed. Stamens 10. Ovary superior, 1-locular. Fruit a berry. Worldwide: 4 genera and 33 genera in tropical and warm America and tropical Africa Malawi: 1 genus and 1 taxon. |
