Description of the genus

Unarmed climbers with coiled tendrils, producing milky latex. Leaves opposite. Inflorescence terminal or axillary cymes. Corolla salver-shaped; tube cylindric; lobes overlapping to the left. Ovary 1-2-locular. Carpels completely fused. Fruit an indehiscent, many-seeded berry.

Worldwide: 60 species in tropical America, Africa and Madagascar
