Description of the genus

Lianes, with tendrils, or climbing shrubs. Stipules 0. Inflorescence of branched terminal panicles. Corolla salver-shaped; lobes overlapping to the left. Anthers keeled on the back. Ovary hairy. Carpels completely fused into an indehiscent, hairy (velutinous), fleshy, many-seeded berry.

Worldwide: 10 species in Africa; 1 extending to Madagascar.

Malawi: 3 taxa.
