Description of the genus

Shrubs, small trees or lianes. Branches appearing supra-axillary and often subtended by small, rounded, often cordate leaves. Stipules acuminate. Leaves opposite. Inflorescences of sessile, dense, axillary clusters. Flowers 5(-6)-merous, sweet-scented; bracts and bracteoles triangular-acuminate, not forming cupules. Calyx with campanulate limb tube and 5 teeth. Corolla white; tube cylindric or narrowly funnel-shaped; 5lobed. Anthers exserted. Ovary 2-locular; ovule 1 per loculus. Seeds flattened; testa wrinkled-striate.

Worldwide: 3-4 species in tropical Africa and the Comoros
