Description of the genus

Perennial herbs with annual stems from a woody rootstock; stems many, densely leafy, with flagelliform hairs. Leaves alternate or opposite, glandular-punctate. Capitula homogamous; involucre with several series of phyllaries; receptacle flat. Corolla regularly 5-lobed, with hairy lobes; anthers with wide hyaline appendage and short tails; style branches subulate, hairy on outside. Achenes 4–5-angled, truncate at apex, glandular; pappus of lacerate scales or of alternating scales and setae.

Worldwide: 2 species in eastern and south-central Africa.

Malawi: 1 taxon.
