Description of the genus

Annual or sometimes perennial herbs; hairs whitish. Stipules broadly ovate. Leaves 1-9 foliate or simple, basal leaves often distinct from upper; leaflets opposite, venation prominent beneath, no stipules on leaflets. Racemes axillary or terminal, laxly flowered. Bracts persistent; pedicels often spreading. Calyx lobes equal or longer than tube. Corolla pink, wings similar, twisting outwards so appearing tripetaloous. Pods spreading to erect, usually at an angle to the pedicel; laterally compressed, sutures usually thickened. Seeds squarish, crowded.

Worldwide: 36 species in Africa and Madagascar
