Shrub or small tree. Leaves opposite, petiolate; stipule lobes triangular, shortly connate. Inflorescence axillary cymes. Flowers sweet-scented, 5-merous, pedicellate bracts and bracteoles present. Calyx tube ovoid; limb short, wider than tube, lobed. Corolla subrotate, tube extremely short; lobes ovate, contorted to the left. Fruit baccate, globose; calyx limb persistent. Seeds (2)4 per fruit; endosperm ruminate. Seeds paired. Worldwide: Two species. One in tropical Africa and one in Madagascar. Malawi: 1 taxon. |
