Lepisanthes Blume

Trees or shrubs, Leaves alternate, usually paripinnate, usually petiolate; leaflets 2-several pairs, opposite or alternate, usually entire. Inflorescence thryses, axillary above axils or in old branches, solitary or several in fascicles. Actinomorphic or zygomorphic; sepals 5, leathery, concave, imbricate, outer 2 smaller, orbicular; petals 4 0r 5, usually spoon shaped, longer than sepals, base clawed, apex with adaxial scale. Fruit ellipsoid or sub-globose, 2 or 3-loculed, pericarp leathery or slightly fleshy. Seeds ellipsoid, brown.

Worldwide: Species 24 in tropical Africa, Madagascar, Asia and north west Australia.
