Phyllocosmus Klotzsch

OCHTHOCOSMUS Benth.

Description of the genus

Shrubs or trees with rather coriaceous entire or serrulate leaves; stipules very small, soon falling. Flowers small, in lax axillary fascicles of racemes or rarely panicles of spikes. Sepals shortly connate at the base. Petals usually contorted, persistent and often indurated in fruit. Ovary 5-locular, each locule with 2 ovules. Fruit capsule, globose with fleshy walls, dehiscent. Seeds ellipsoid, surrounded by a pale yellowish or reddish aril.

Worldwide: 15 species, pantropical.

Malawi: 1 taxon.
