Leptonychia Turcz.

Description of the genus

Shrubs or small trees sometimes sparsely hairy. Leaves simple, entire, palmately nerved from the base, domatia in the axils of the principal veins below; with stipules. Inflorescences axillary, cymose, 1-may flowered or cymes on old wood; pedicels articulate with bracts. Sepals free with hairs internally and a ring of nectaries at the base. Petals scale-like, shorter than the sepals, hairy. Ovary syncarpous, sessile, 2-5 locular. Capsules globose, opening irregularly. Seeds shiny, black or brown.

Worldwide: 28 species in tropical Africa
