Trees, shrubs or subshrubs, glabrous. Bark with yellow pigment present beneath. Stipules laciniate or deeply divided into linear segments, markedly longitudinally striate, persistent on first year shoots. Leaves petiolate; midrib raised on both the upper and lower leaf surfaces; venation with characteristic ascending primary laterals linked by secondary laterals. Derivation of name: After William Dunlop Brackenridge (1810-1893), Scottish-born American nurseryman, landscape architect and horticulturist who collected plants widely during a US exploring expedition but not in Africa. Worldwide: 6-7 species in the Old World tropics Malawi: 1 taxon. |
