Location (short): The park is situated to the west of the Great North Road between Serenje and Mpika

Location (detailed): National Park No. 9, gazetted 1972,1500 sq km. Mpika District. This rather poorly known national park is situated to the west of the Great North Road between Serenje and Mpika. the terrain is gently rolling and lies mainly between 1200-1400m, although the Lavushi Manda Hills exceed 1800m in places. This scenic range extends for about 40km and runs parallel to the south-eastern boundary of the park In the hills are some deep canyons and precipitous rock faces and cliffs (Clarke & Loe 1974).

Description

The habitat is predominantly mature miombo, but the park encompasses the headwaters of numerous small rivers along which run strips of forest or dambos. These then drain into the Bangweulu basin.
