Notes: Unbranched to 30 cm high. Stem reddish, only slightly pubescent on upper part of stem only. Leaves coriaceous, deeply depressed central vein, smooth, dark green. Calyx of five green sepals with rounded tips. Corolla of five green petals, deep red (maroon) inside, green mottled red outside, very slightly pointed and extreme tips reflexed. A star-shaped light-coloured pattern surrounding the staminal column with points of the star in the centre base of the petals. Corona of five small, glossy white members, rounded tops and each with three inward-pointing peaks. Buds global, contorted.
