Description:
Herbaceous twinner. Tuber depressed globose to discoid, to 3 cm diam. Stem twining, herbaceous, up to 1.5 m long, uniformly pilose to hirsute. Leaves herbaceous; petiole 2–20 mm long, hirsute; leaf blade linear-ovate to lanceolate, 25–90(110) × 3–35(40) mm, upper leaves sometimes much smaller, base rounded to subcordate, margin ciliate, apex acuminate, both surfaces glabrous to hirsute-pilose. Inflorescence extra- axillary, subsessile; cyme 5–12-flowered, flowers opening in succession. Sepals linear-subulate, c.5 mm long, acute, densely pilose. Corolla 20–30(45) mm long, straight; tube 5–9 mm long, narrowly ovoid without distinct basal chamber, 2–3 mm diam., limb narrowing to 1–2 mm wide, widening to 3 mm diam. at mouth, exterior creamy-white, pilose, interior with mouth and base of lobes blackish green, glabrous; lobes filiform with triangular base, 10–20 mm long, apices free, rotately spreading, abaxially cream-coloured, pilose, adaxially velutinous, blackish at base with filiform part cream, glabrous. Corona stipitate, cupular, c.2 × 1.3 mm diam.; outer lobes forming small pouches, hyaline, ciliate; inner lobes converging above gynoecium, S-shaped, meeting at tips, narrowly ligulate, 1.2–1.5 mm long, base pilose, apices shortly hirsute-papillose. Habitat: Usually in Brachystegia woodland, sometimes in rocky aras, in dense bush or in tall grass.
