Description:
Rhizome erect, up to 60 mm thick; scales up to 10 mm long, brown, ovate, sparsely fringed. Fronds tufted, erect. Stipe up to 90 mm long, glabrous with age. Lamina simple, up to 1 m long and 7 cm wide, elliptic to lanceolate-linear in outline, margins entire, apex attenuate, hairless. Sori linear, up to c. 3 cm long, set at 45 degrees to the midrib, indusium entire.

Derivation of specific name: holstii: named after C.H.E.W. Holst, German horticulturist.
