Description: |
Densely tufted perennial grass, the base invested in tightly packed dead sheaths. Culms 30–120 cm. high, the nodes glabrous or pubescent. Leaf lamina 1–10 mm. wide, linear, often narrow, harsh to the touch, plicate when young but soon flattening, the basal portion usually narrowed to a false petiole. Panicle 5–20 cm. long, with branches spreading in ours, usually contracted elsewhere, , the branches pubescent or sometimes pilose; bristles 2–10 mm. long, often inconspicuous. Spikelets 2–3 mm. long, narrowly ovate to elliptic. Inferior glume 1/4–1/2 the superior 1/2 to as long as spikelet. Superior lemma rugose, pallid. |
