Description: |
Robust clump-forming perennial, up to 2 m. Leaves long and linear, erect when young but soon becoming bent over, dull green or glaucous. Peduncle, stout, up to 1.6 m. Flowers in a dense raceme up to 28 cm, orange to red-orange. Perianth funnel-shaped, slightly constricted above the ovary; stamens exserted 5-10 mm. This species can be distinguished from the common Kniphofia linearifolia by the much more robust habit and the longer and more compacted inflorescence |
Notes: | The population on Mt Mulanje was formerly regarded as the endemic taxon K. monticola S. Blackmore but is now considered conspecific with the more widespread K. splendida. |
