Description:
Very small herb, 5-15 cm high, growing from a narrow horizontal rhizome; roots mostly reduced to small elongated tubers at the nodes of the rhizome. Leaves 1-3, basal, usually almost flat on the ground, lineae to oblanceolate, 2-20 cm long, pubescent above, usually hairless beneath; margin somewhat wavy, cilate. peduncle 1.5-3 cm long, closely ribbed. Inflorescence unbranched, densely flowered; floral bracts lanceolate with ciliate margins. Flowers singly at each bract; perianth united at the base, slightly bell-shaped, white; tepals 1-veinedhairless. Stamens exserted; filaments longer than anthers. Capsule subglobose, 3-angled, c. 2.5 × 3 mm.

Derivation of specific name: leptoneurum: fine-nerved
Habitat: In open woodland, often on bare patches in sandy soil.
