Description:
A bushy perennial, which may grow up to 2m but is usually much smaller. Leaves distinctly petiolate and covered in long, silvery hairs. Male and female flowers normally on the same plant (see photo), the male spikes pale greenish yellow, situated in the leaf axils; the female flowers terminal with a crown of bright red hair-like styles.

Habitat: In a wide variety of woodland and grassland habitats and at the fringes of riverine and evergreen forest.
