Description:
Vigorous climber. Stems 4-5 angled, sometimes pubescent, with forked tendrils. Leaves succulent, broadly ovate to sub-circular-elliptic, c. 8 × 8 cm, glabrescent or pubescent on both surfaces; margin crenate to serrate. Flowers in leaf-opposed and terminal, branched inflorescences, small, green. Fruit subspherical c. 1.5 × 1.3 cm, red when ripe.

Derivation of specific name: rotundifolia: round-leaved
Habitat: In dry woodland and bush.
Altitude range: Up to 500 m
Flowering time:
Worldwide distribution: from the Arabian Peninsula down the Eastern side of Africa to Limpopo and Mpumalanga, South Africa. Mainly coastal but coming inland along the major river valleys.
