Description:
Perennial herb or subshrub; stems unbranched or slightly branched, numerous from a thick woody rhizome. Inflorescence capitate, compact, terminal, 18-55(72)-flowered, 2.5-4 cm in diameter; peduncle 1-15 cm long, glabrous or pubescent, sometimes almost lacking. Bracts glabrous to densely pubescent or pilose, green, persistent. Flowers (4)5 merous, orange or yellow.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: kraussiana: named after Christian Krauss (1812-1890) German scientist, traveller and collector in South Africa.
Habitat: Grassland and woodland, mostly seen flowering after fires.
Altitude range: 300 - 2550 m
Flowering time:Sep - Oct
Worldwide distribution: Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana; from Senegal, and Kenya to South Africa and Namibia.
