Description:
Suffrutex or small shrub up to 2 m high. Stem usually single, slender, greenish, smooth. Leaves variable, up to c. 20 cm long, pinnate or 3-foliolate, sometimes leaves or parts of it not fully divided into separate leaflets; leaflets narrowly elliptic to slightly lanceolate, up to 9 cm long, entirely hairless, sharply pointed to somewhat rounded at the apex; margin entire but distinctly thickened. Flowers small greenish-yellow, in double umbels 7-10 cm in diameter, terminal on main stem and on lateral branches. Fruit a small capsule, obovoid, 3-9 mm long.
Notes: This species is generally very similar to H. involucrata but can be distinguished by the narrower leaflets which are entirely hairless; generally smaller less densely flowered inflorescences and more greenish flowers.

Habitat: In woodland, often in miombo and on rocky hillsides.
