Description:
Erect perennial herb, up to 1.3 m high. Stem ribbed, thinly hairy. Leaves ovate to ovate-oblong or lanceolate, upper sessile, clasping the stem, lower petiolate, 20-150 mm long, thinly hairy or hairless, midrib and veins paler beneath; margin broadly toothed or subentire. Inflorescence terminal or in the axils of upper bracts, of numerous, more or less densely congested capitula. Involucre bracts, elliptic- to lanceolate-oblong, green or more or less crimson or purple, hairless. Florets yellow, without ligules on the ray-florets. Achenes pale, shining, with few appressed microscopic hairs. Pappus white.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: tigrensis: of Tigray in Ethiopia.
Habitat: In montane grassland, along forest margins and roadsides.
