Description:
Robust perennial herb, up to c. 2 m tall. Leaves initially in a basal rosette, eventually also along the stem. Basal leaves up to 45 × 20 cm, obovate, base running down the petiole, roughly hairy above, densely velvety below; margin irregularly toothed. Inflorescence a large terminal panicle. Capitula in dense subspherical clusters, orange-yellow; ray-florets absent. The flower heads take a long time to open, appearing creamy-white due to the involucral bracts.

Habitat: In miombo woodland and wooded grassland.

Worldwide distribution: Angola, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe and northern South Africa.
