Description:
Robust perennial herb, up to 2 m tall. Stems winged below. Basal leaves hairless, up to 50 cm long, sessile but narrowing into a long petiole-like base; midrib thick; margin finely dentate. Leaves along the stem similar but smaller, often running down into the winged stem. Inflorescence of numerous terminal corymbs. Capitula radiate; ray florets 5-8, yellow.

Habitat: In moist grassland and along margins of forest, often in black soil vleis, sometimes on roadsides and river banks.
