Description:
Small to large evergreen tree. Leaves obovate to elliptic, up to 22 cm long, leathery, velvety when young becoming hairless; margin entire or with sinuate hairs; petiole long, up to 6 cm with a pulvinus (swelling) below the blade. Flowers unisexual, mostly on different trees, in clusters on the old wood, creamy-white but densely covered in rusty brown hairs. Fruit 1-2 carpels, c. 1.5 cm long, covered in short rusty-brown hairs.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: mossambicensis: of Mozambique.
Habitat: In low-altitude evergreen- and dry forest.
Altitude range: Up to 600 m
