Description:
Small tree. Leaves alternate, oblong, 4-9 cm long, 3-veined from the base, stellate hairy on both surfaces and with hair-tuft domatia in the axils of the veins below; margin crenate or dentate. Flowers solitary or in few-flowered heads, leaf-opposed, yellow, c. 4.5 cm in diameter. Fruit oblong-cylindric, sometimes with a sharp tip, 4-8 cm long, hard and woody with 8-10 longitudinal ridges, stellate-hairy.
Notes: - This species is generally very similar to Grewia, except for the distinctive fruit.
- Closely related to the more widespread G. brevis (Spreng.) Monachino, which is found in the forests of West and Central Africa.
