Description:
Perennial herb with vertical rhizome up to 10 cm. long, stemless or almost so. Bulb ovoid, up to 2 cm long. Leaves 3–5 in a basal rosette, 3-foliolate; leaflets very narrowly elliptic to linear, 4–8 cm long, almost hairless; petiole 4–16 cm long, sparsely pubescent or almost hairless. Inflorescences in 4–7-flowered pseudumbels arising from the leaf-rosettes; peduncle 7–24 cm long, pubescent or nearly hairless. Flowers purple, magenta-pink or carmine, whitish near the base. Sepals elliptic, 5–6 mm long, pubescent or nearly hairless, orange-coloured at the apex. Petals oblong-elliptic, up to 18 mm long, hairless.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: chapmaniae: named after Elizabeth Chapman (1928- ), who collected the type specimen.
Habitat: Montane grassland.
Altitude range: 2130 - 2470 m

Worldwide distribution: Only known from the Nyika Plateau, Malawi and Zambia.
