Description:
Terrestrial herb 18–65 cm tall, growing from spherical or ellipsoid tubers c. 10 mm long. Leaves 3–6, largest near the base, Lanceolate, 5–13.5 cm long, acute, decreasing in size up the stem, upper ones bract-like. Inflorescence laxly 2–12-flowered. Sepals and petals yellow-green, lip dull maroon with a white or greenish margin. Sepals lanceolate to ovate, 6–11 mm long, pointes; dorsal sepal projecting over the column; lateral sepals spreading, slightly longer than the dorsal sepal. Petals 4-9 mm long, lanceolate, pointed, ciliolate. Lip oblong-spathulate, 5-9 mm long, entire, convex with a large hairy callus in the lower centre.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: stolzii: after Adolf Ferdinand Stolz (1871-1917), German missionary, merchant and plant collector in Angola and Malawi, particularly of orchids.
Habitat: In damp montane grassland, on seepage slopes or amongst rocks.
Altitude range: 1800 - 2300 m
