Description:
Terrestrial herb with ellipsoid tubers. Leaves along the stem, 6-7, lowest sheathing, lanceolate, up to c. 14 cm long, acute, ribbed; inflorescence laxly up to 18-flowered; flowers large, white, greenish-cream or greenish-yellow.
Notes: Differs from C. occultans in the longer and more slender lateral lobes of the lip which are turned upwards and parallel to each other and have fewer and shorter fimbriate processes, with a shorter club-shaped spur.
Derivation of specific name: clavatum: club-shaped in reference to the spur.
Habitat: Very wet dambo, swampy grassland
Altitude range: 1200 - 1680 m
Flowering time:Jan - Feb
Worldwide distribution: From DRC to Tanzania south to Malawi and Zambia.
