Description:
Slender twining herb, with stems up to 2 m long, from a subglobose or elongated tuberous root, up to 3 cm long. Leaves linear to ovate, 35–85 mm long, hairless; venation prominent beneath; margin serrate or crenate; petiole up to 12 mm long, often curved. Inflorescences c. 20–30–flowered in lax racemes, up to 100 cm long; pedicels 3–13 mm long, shortly crisped pubescent; bracts more or less leaf–like, becoming smaller upwards; bracteoles 1–2 mm long. Calyx–lobes narrowly triangular, 2·4–4 mm long, with 1–3 pairs of teeth at the margin, hairless or sparsely ciliate, more or less erect or spreading, becoming reflexed in fruit, Corolla 9–12 mm long, pale pink, pale purple or mauve, split to the base into 2 lips, the upper 3–lobed, lower divided into 2 free petals; all petals linear, hairless outside, pubescent inside at the base. Capsule ovoid, 5-7.5 mm long with 10 distinct veins.
