Description:
Perennial herb, with stout, erect to decumbent stems 0.5 - 1.5 m tall, virgately branched above, hairy. Leaves opposite becoming alternate upwards, clustered, spreading, oblanceolate to elliptic, 10-33 mm long and 1.5-5 mm wide, narrowed at the base to a petiolar part, thinly textured, midrib visible, hairs on margin and midrib, few scattered particularly above; margin entire or with a few minute teeth, slightly thickened Inflorescence up to 300 mm in diameter, a lax round-topped panicle composed of small lax heads, the individual racemes c. 4 x 5 mm. Bracts adnate to pedicel and part of calyx tube, lowermost oblong, 2 - 3.2 mm long, concave, hairy mainly on margins. Pedicels less than 1 mm long. Calyx obliquely campanulate, 1.4 - 1.8 mm long, 5-lobed roughly halfway, 2 lobes larger than other 3, hairy on margins and outside. Corolla 3 - 4 mm across lateral lobes; tube 1 - 1.8 mm long, broadly funnel-shaped; all lobes elliptic, shades of lavender blue.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: viscosa: viscid or sticky but this considered a misnomer as the plants are not viscid.
Habitat: In grassland, along forest margins, on rocky outcrops, and in wet depressions also on bare ground along roadsides or firebreaks.
