Herbs or shrubs. Hairs usually medifixed. Leaves usually imparipinnate. Flowers usually in axillary racemes. Corolla usually red. Stamens united or with the upper one free; anthers apiculate. Fruit usually dehiscent.

Worldwide: c. 700 species in tropical and warm areas
