Description:
Tough, mat-forming perennial with wiry stolons; culms up to 120 cm tall, slender, ascending; leaf laminas 4–25 cm × 3–6 mm, flat, ± glabrous.Racemes (1)2–3, 3–7 cm long, diverging and often somewhat falcate.Spikelets 3–5.3 mm long, narrowly ovate, 3–6-flowered; glumes subequal, 1.3–1.8 mm long, the inferior broadly elliptic to ovate in profile, the superior broadly elliptic to narrowly obovate in profile, the smooth keel extended into a stout awn up to 1.5(2) times as long as the body; lemmas 3–3.8 mm long, lanceolate in profile, the keel smooth or only faintly scaberulous towards the apex, acute and mucronulate at the apex in the lower lemmas; palea keels wingless; anthers 1.1–1.7 mm long.Caryopsis c. 1 mm long, transversely rugose.

Habitat: Locally common mat-forming grass on littoral dunes, in sand on mangrove margins and in saline sandy clays on the coastal plain; also in seasonal swampy floodplain grassland and sandy river banks at low altitudes
