Description: |
Densely tufted perennial grass, culms 50-130 cm high. Leaves mostly basal with sheaths pubescent near the base, laminae (14)18–35(50) cm. long and 1.5–5 mm. wide, linear, acute or acuminate. Inflorescence much-branched panicles (8)12–20(30) cm. long, narrowly oblong to ovate. Spikelets numerous, purple, 2–2.5(3) mm. long, ovate, glabrous, often purple tinged; inferior glume 1/2–2/3 as long as the spikelet, (3)5-nerved, recurved acute to acuminate; superior glume 5-nerved, recurved acute to acuminate; inferior lemma 5-nerved, its palea well developed, male; superior lemma smooth and glossy. |
