Description:
Perennial herb often sprawling, up to 1 m tall. Leaves opposite, petiolate, ovate, 2-8 cm long, covered in short hairs. Flowers in terminal and axillary clusters, held in glandular hairy bracts; corolla 2-lipped, white to pale pinkish with dark lilac markings.
Notes:
Derivation of specific name: forskaolii: after Pehr Forsskål (1732 - 1763), Finnish-born student of Linnaeus, who travelled and collected in Egypt and the Arabian Peninsula.
Habitat: In a wide variety of habitats.
Altitude range: Up to 2300 m
Flowering time:Feb - Dec
Worldwide distribution: Widespread in tropical and Southern Africa. Also in Saharan Highlands, Arabia and Madagascar.
