Description: |
Epiphyte or lithophyte, often forming small, dense mats, flowering when leafless. Pseudobulbs squat, onion-shaped, 10-15 mm long, shiny green or purplish, 2-3-leaved. Leaves narrowly linear, grass-like, up to 15 cm long. Inflorescence more or less densely many-flowered, usually up to 15 cm long but rarely up to 35 cm. Flowers pale to deep pink, sometimes white. Lip white, large with a conspicuous bright yellow callus and a frilled edge. Lateral sepals forming a narrow, cylindric, spur-like mentum. |

Derivation of specific name: | songaniensis: from the Songani Lookout point on Zomba Plateau in Malawi, where the type specimen was found. |
Habitat: | Growing on old Xerophyta stumps, in clumps of sedges or on exposed seepage rock, apparently never seen on living plants. |
