Herb; Notes: Annual herb, up to 75 cm when in flower. Stems slender, erect, unbranched, terete but slightly ribbed, green, glabrous. Leaves clustered, simple, sessile; lamina linear, apex acute, base cuneate, margin entire, tends to be revolute, up to 60 x 2 mm, dull green, glabrous. Flowers in terminal racemes, densely arranged, especially terminally, showy, 2 cm in diameter. Petals 5, free, obovate, pale pink with purple bases. Sepals 5, fused, green, ciliate along free upper margins, persistent. Stamens with filaments maroon, contorted; anthers large, ovoid, fused. Fruit a capsule, 2-lobed, ovoid, 6 mm long with style persistent.
